Lesson 10 of 12

Brand, Trust and the Founder Story

Why Trust Has Become the Scarcest Thing Online

AI can now generate an unlimited amount of content. This means the internet is being flooded with articles, websites, and tools that look credible but come from no one in particular.

In this environment, the things that are hardest to fake become the most valuable:

A real person with a documented track record Real failures published openly Real revenue numbers (even if small) Real dates, real experiments, real results

None of these can be instantly generated. They take time. That time is the moat.

Trust Signals That Actually Work

What "Build in Public" Actually Means

Build in Public is often misunderstood as "share your wins on Twitter."

The real version is harder and more valuable:

Share the experiment before you know the result Share the failure after it happens Share the real numbers, not the rounded ones Share the process, not just the outcome

Ordinary Man Trying exists for this reason. Not to teach from a place of success — but to document the attempt in real time, including the parts that are still uncertain.

Why the Founder Story Matters

When a user is deciding between two similar products, they often choose the one where they know who made it.

"I chose this tool because the person who built it seemed like they actually use it themselves. They write about the problems they ran into. I trusted that."

That trust is built over time, one honest post at a time. It cannot be rushed or faked.

"In the AI era, long-term records and genuine trust become harder to copy and more valuable."
